SUMMARY:Hamlet – Indoor Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Watch an intimate performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in the Castle’s Medieval Great Hall!\nRegarded as one of the greatest plays in the English language\, Aethelflaed Theatre Company are delighted to offer this traditional candlelit production – directed by Naomi Coleman – in the beautiful historic setting of Worcestershire’s Hartlebury Castle. \nAs Prince Hamlet mourns the loss of his father\, a royal wedding follows quickly at the heels of the royal funeral and\, at most wicked speed\, his mother marries his uncle; something is rotten in the state of Denmark! The crucial difference between that which is and that which seems to be holds the key for Hamlet\, as he vows to avenge a murder most foul. \nRecommended for ages 14+. \nTickets\n£18.50 (booking fees apply). \nApproximate running time: 90 minutes\, plus an interval. \nDoors open at 6pm\, when pre-theatre drinks and snacks will be available to purchase from the bar. \nDoors to the performance in the Great Hall open at 6.50pm. \nClick here to get tickets (via Aethelflaed Theatre Company’s Box Office)Reviews (from previous productions)\n“Precisely and intelligently directed – Coleman’s latest production is a brilliant thing indeed.  5*.” – Isaac Milne\, Things We Enjoy (review of Every Brilliant Thing) \n“Coleman’s interpretation is confidently bravura\, full-throated and satisfying at every pitch.” – Kyle Pedley\, Stourbridge News (review of After The End) \n“Coleman’s vision\, coupled with the talents of her cast and crew\, brought Shakespeare’s words to vibrant life. The laughter that echoed through the grounds\, the gasps of surprise at the fairies’ antics\, and the sighs of contentment at the play’s joyful resolution all combined to create a truly magical evening.” – Tim Ashton\, Soulton Hall (review of A Midsummer Night’s Dream) \nMore information\n\nSeating is unallocated and spaces are chosen by attendees on a first come basis.\nPlease do not bring food and drink onto site. There will be beer\, cider\, wine\, soft drinks and snacks available to purchase from the bar before the performance and during the interval.\nThe play will be performed indoors – we are a historic site and our Medieval Great Hall can feel chilly in cold weather\, so please dress appropriately.\nFree parking is available on site.\nDogs are not allowed at this event\, with the exception of Assistance Dogs.\nIf you have any questions about this event\, feel free to email Chantel at events@hartleburycastle.com.\n\nHamlet Trailer (by INTEXTMEDIA)\nSorry\, your browser doesn't support embedded videos.About Aethelflaed Theatre Company\nAethelflaed Theatre Company – Changing the Theatrical Landscape.  \nCreatively retelling\, reworking and adapting text\, Aethelflaed aims to foundationally enhance the relationship between rural audiences and theatre; their work forming part of the rural cultural fabric. Led by director Naomi Coleman (Birmingham Hippodrome/Rep Door/Artrix/Newhampton Art Centre/Gather.at)\, Aethelflaed understands the importance of the local creative ecology\, paving a creative pathway for regional artists (performers\, technicians and makers) who have had to leave the region to succeed – instead giving them a reason to return. \nAfter the success of Connor McPherson’s stage adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s novella ‘The Birds’\, this summer Aethelflaed brings their production of Hamlet out of their creative home in the rural market town of Bridgnorth (Theatre on the Steps) to heritage sites across the Shires.
